The University of Winnipeg recently opened a learning centre in India, designed to educate young women in Bhanohar Village.
The Bhanohar Education Centre is located in the country’s Punjab region
UWinnipeg President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Lloyd Axworthy attended a celebration of the opening, and said the university is committed to forging stronger ties to India and the South Asian community in Manitoba by encouraging more students to pursue post-secondary education.
The Bhanohar Education Centre consists of a library, a computer room and a gymnasium. The centre will be available to all of the women living in the village as well as to those in the surrounding villages.
This centre was made possible through a $700,000 donation from Ventura Custom Homes Ltd.
