Truck Hauling Marijuana Goes Up in Smoke

February 8, 2011 12:04 PM | News

A truck fire near Gimli has led to the seizure of about $40,000 worth of marijuana plants.

RCMP say they were called to the fire on Highway 8 near Minerva Road in the RM of Gimli on February 3.

Smoke could be seen billowing out of the cargo area of the cube rental truck, which police say was caused by a propane tank igniting.

After the blaze was extinguished, it was determined the truck was being used to transport the marijuana.

A 39-year-old Winnipeg man was seen walking away from the scene, but was later arrested. He will appear in Gimli court on May 2.

Police continue to investigate.
