Telus customers will soon have the ability to ditch their wireless carrier and move elsewhere.
The mobile service provider announced Monday that beginning February 15, customers can unlock their SIM-based devices. The process of unlocking means postpaid customers will have to pay a one time $50 fee and will then be given the freedom to move to another carrier that supports their particular device.
Customers must be on a monthly plan and have had their device for a minimum of 90 days to take advantage of the offer.
New wireless carrier Wind Mobile, for example, sells SIM cards without the obligation of signing a contract. This provider has been popular with Canadians since it launched for allowing contract-free service at discounted rates.
