Bisons’ Hockey, Volleyball Set for Playoff Weekend

February 17, 2011 7:30 AM | Sports

It’s a big weekend for the Manitoba Bisons, as several teams have made it to the post season and will vie for a chance at going to the nationals.

First up is the women’s hockey team, who will have home ice advantage when they take on multi-Olympian Hayley Wickenheiser and the Calgary Dinos. The two teams will go at it in a best-of-three playoff series at Max Bell Arena on Friday, Saturday, and if necessary, on Sunday.

The Bisons go into the semi-final ranked sixth, with the Dinos trailing close behind in seventh place. However, one thing is clear — the Bisons have Wickenheiser in their sights and will do everything they can to stop her.

Watch:

Next door at the Investors Group Athletic Centre, the Manitoba Bison men’s volleyball team will meet the Brandon Bobcats in a two-game, possibly three, weekend series.

The Bisons have dropped the last six games this season after a strong start and will look to pick things up again and make the best of their young roster. The Bobcats are more experienced with a lineup of fifth-year players at their disposal.

It will be the first time Manitoba meets Brandon in the Canada West playoffs, finishing in fourth place with an 11-7 record, while the Bobcats hold a 10-6 standing.

Watch:

The Bisons’ hockey and volleyball teams both begin at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and if need be, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, February 20.

Tickets are available at the door for $10 (adults) and $5 (students/seniors) or you can win them below.
