Horses Killed by Train, Semi Trucks Near Virden

February 22, 2011 2:45 PM | News

Ten horses were killed after roaming on Highway 1 west of Virden Sunday evening.

RCMP say 17 horses were at large at about 7:40 p.m., when six were hit by a passing train and another four were hit by semi truck traffic.

Another horse was injured and taken to a local veterinarian.

The owner of the horses managed to locate and round up the others.

Police are investigating how the animals became loose in the first place.
