The Manitoba Bison women’s volleyball team has one of three conference berths in their sights this weekend.
The team travels to UBC to face the Thunderbirds to play in the 2011 Canada West Final.
It’s not the first time the two teams have met, and the Bisons are aware they need to step up their game, especially at this point in the season.
Watch:
The Bisons have a bit of bad blood with UBC from last year. They lost 3-1 in the gold medal game in 2010 and were also defeated 3-2 in the 2010 Canada West Final Four gold medal match.
“As much as this team has driven me crazy — and they have literally this year — I still believe we’re a very good team and can beat anybody,” head coach Ken Bentley said.
The Herd heads into this weekend 8-3 overall on the road this season, sitting 2-0 in the playoffs.
Game time at UBC is Friday at 7:30 p.m. CT and Saturday at 5:30 p.m. CT for the gold/bronze medal match. If successful, the Bisons will head to the University of Laval from March 4-6 for the CIS Championship.
Here at home, the Bison men’s hockey team takes on Saskatchewan Friday and Saturday at Max Bell Arena. Puck drop is at 7 p.m. Meanwhile, women’s hockey is on the road in Alberta for the 2011 Canada West Final Friday and Saturday. Bison men’s basketball has earned a playoff spot for the first time since the 2003-04 season and will play at UBC.
