CTV British Columbia debuted the first noon hour mobile newscast in the country this week.
CTV News Digital Edition is a three-minute newscast delivering the day’s headlines to smartphones and viewers on the go.
The abbreviated version of CTV News is free to watch and doesn’t require an app to be downloaded. The video is also displayed in HTML5 format, not Flash, making iPhone and iPad users able to watch the content.
The newscast is available at ctvnewsatnoon.ctv.ca, or viewers can scan a QR code on the website to be directly taken to the video player.
As for whether all CTV web videos will eventually be viewable in HTML5, a spokesperson tells ChrisD.ca, “CTV is focused on multi-platform content delivery in the coming months, and will have some new video delivery and access options.”
CTV also hinted at other affiliates offering mobile newscasts at some point. “We’re always looking for new and innovative ways to deliver news to our viewers,” a statement read in part.
