The search for a 73-year-old missing woman has come to an unfortunate end.

Elizabeth Lafantaisie went missing on February 18 — one week ago today — from the Royalwood area and hadn’t been seen since.

On Friday, Winnipeg police revealed their efforts have now turned into a homicide investigation after Lafantaisie’s body was found in the trunk of her car.

On Wednesday, police asked the public for assistance in locating Lafantaisie, one day prior to locating her 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix on Thursday. Her car was located near River Avenue and Lewis Street and towed to undergo further forensic analysis.

Police say Lafantaisie’s car was taken to a coin-operated car wash by the suspect(s) last Friday and was washed. Anyone who may have seen the dark green four-door Grand Prix being washed in a suspicious manner is asked to contact police at (204) 986-6222.
