Former Winnipeg Blue Bomber Ricky Bell Dies

Former Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive back Ricky Bell has died.

The team said in a statement the 36-year-old passed way on February 17.

“It is always sad anytime you lose somebody at such a young age,” said Blue Bomber President Jim Bell. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family at this time.”

Bell played for the Blue Bombers from 2002-2004, and joined the CFL in 2001 after spending three seasons in the NFL, one season in NFL Europe and one season in the XFL.

He won a Grey Cup with the Calgary Stampeders in 2001 before being selected by Ottawa in the expansion draft in 2002
