A fire destroyed a barn in Winnipeg late Monday morning, sending smoke billowing into the sky.

The fire started in a barn at 1270 Sturgeon Road near Saskatchewan Avenue. According to a witness on scene, the barn is housed at a landscaping business called the Unique Centre.

The barn contained horses and ponies, but all animals made it out safely.

Firefighters were battling the blaze into the afternoon.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and a damage estimate isn’t yet available.
