The city will honour Marymound for its 100 years of care by renaming a street after the longtime social services agency.
Ord Street in West Kildonan will be renamed Marymound Way. The street borders on Marymound School’s yard and won’t affect the address of any homes or businesses in the area.
“It’s a wonderful tribute to the sisters who founded Marymound in 1911 and to the many people who worked here over the century,” Ian Hughes, Marymound CEO, said in a release. “We feel very proud to be recognized in this way.”
The name change will take effect on September 10, when Marybound hosts its 100th Anniversary Reunion and Culture Day.
More than 3,000 children, youth and families are supported each year by the agency.
