The Manitoba government will table its 2011 provincial budget on April 12 — the same day the fifth session of the 39th Manitoba legislature resumes.
Finance Minister Rosann Wowchuk made the announcement Monday, also noting that a special warrant was recently approved to make up for a $233 million budget shortfall in 2010-11.
Reasons for the shortfall were attributed to “increased costs for emergency expenditures related to 2010 spring flooding, forest fires and preparations for a potentially serious 2011 flood, support for families, health-care services and public safety.”
The upcoming budget will be the last before the provincial election set for October 4.
