The University of Winnipeg Faculty Association accused the U of W administration of fear mongering on Tuesday.
The UWFA said university officials hinted a long strike would be imminent with the inclusion of Peter Simpson as chief negotiator.
Simpson comes from the Canadian Association of University Teachers and was brought in to stave off a potential strike at 12:01 a.m. on Thursday. The Faculty Association originally set Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. as their deadline, but pushed it back.
Salary continues to be the main issue preventing both sides from hammering out an agreement.
Further talks are planned for Wednesday between the Faculty Association, U of W and the conciliator.
