Four more cancers have been added into the Workers Compensation Act to protect Manitoba firefighters from the financial burden of fighting the disease.

Alex Forrest, president of the United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg, will speak to the Standing Committee on Social and Economic Development this afternoon about this latest addition.

Fifteen cancers will now be covered for firefighters in Manitoba, including the additions of breast, skin, prostate and multiple myeloma cancer to Bill #6.

The firefighters union says the inclusion of breast cancer recognizes that women are an important part of the firefighting profession.
