The Manitoba government is looking at creating legislation that would allow for Saturday bail hearings.
On Monday, Premier Greg Selinger and Chief Judge Ken Champagne announced plans for a senior judge program.
“A senior judge program would add capacity and flexibility to the judicial services the court can provide, and could support the court’s ability to be more accessible outside of traditional business hours,” Selinger said in a statement.
The new legislation would allow retired judges to return to the bench as needed. The program would address the needs to serve when a sitting judge is on extended leave.
