The launch of Metro News in Winnipeg is just a few weeks away and the publisher’s newspaper boxes are beginning to make an appearance on city streets.

The free daily paper will be distributed beginning April 4, reaching about 40,000 Winnipeggers.

What’s interesting about the boxes — besides their extreme cleanliness and brand new smell — is that they contain a QR code on the top. Upon scanning it on your smartphone, you’re taken to Metro’s mobile site, listing the headlines of the day in a neat and organized format.

Thanks to the keen-eyed Policy Frog for pointing out these new boxes.
