March 23, 2011 5:16 PM | News

A 16-year-old boy has died of his injuries after the ATV he was riding collided with a car.

The accident happened Wednesday at about 8:40 a.m. on Highway 201 and Road 3 West in the RM of Rhineland.

RCMP say the teen was driving the off-road vehicle southbound when it collided with an eastbound Toyota Echo. The driver of the ATV was taken to Altona General Hospital, then transferred to Winnipeg, where he succumbed to his injuries. He was from the RM of Rhineland.

The two people in the car — Altona residents in their 60’s — were treated in Altona and released.

The highway was closed for three hours while police investigated.

Road conditions, weather and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

The teen was wearing a helmet at the time. His name isn’t being released.
