Winnipeg Art Gallery Undergoing Staff Restructuring

April 1, 2011 6:12 AM | News

The Winnipeg Art Gallery is shifting around staff members instead of pieces of art these days.

The WAG has announced a restructuring phase as it approaches its 100th anniversary next year. Officials say it will streamline the organization and improve efficiencies in all departments.

Two long-time employees serving in the Gallery Shop and Museum Services departments accepted the offer of buy-out packages at a recent union meeting. Two additional layoffs have been made in the area of Engineering and Facility Rentals.

“The restructuring of our staff is in the long-term best interests of the WAG, its membership, and all stakeholders,” said Director Stephen Borys. “With this restructuring, we were seeking a reduction of eight percent in the full- and part-time staff complement, and this was achieved. As these positions are not in the service sector, we do not anticipate any service disruption to the public.”
