About 60 teens from a handful of organizations around the city will help out on Sunday in Rady JCC and J-Serve’s Global Day of Jewish Youth Service.
The event this year coincides with the launch of National Volunteer Week, where volunteers and civic participation is celebrated nationwide.
It’s the third year in which Winnipeg-area teens will have the opportunity to participate in the initiative, including volunteering at Siloam Mission sorting clothes and visiting seniors at Simkin Centre and painting Passover pictures on the windows. The teens will also be helping out with the special needs group at the Fun and Fitness with Friends program at the Rady JCC.
“Last year we participated through a wheelchair basketball program with the Manitoba Wheelchair Sports Association,” said Leah Hornstein, Rady JCC’s youth coordinator. “Our goal was to raise awareness on the challenges and difficulties of living with a disability.”
The event runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
