The University of Winnipeg is holding a memorial basketball game on Sunday, April 17 in honour of a Sudanese refugee who was slain in a downtown stabbing incident in March.
Abdul Jemei will be honoured when the U of W’s Inner-City Wesmen Girl’s Basketball team takes the court at the Duckworth Centre.
Three of Abdul’s sisters, Hana, Sabrinia and Esra, are members of the girls’ basketball program. Abdul actively supported the program and team members want to show their support for his family and create a post-secondary scholarship in his memory.
Abdul immigrated to Winnipeg four years ago with his family and held down a full-time restaurant job.
Game time is 7:30 p.m. and everyone is welcome to attend.
