The 2011 Hockey Manitoba Cup — Adult Rec Provincial Championships don’t officially get underway until Thursday, but local Winnipeg teams take to the ice beginning today at the MTS Iceplex.
A total of 48 teams will be competing in six different divisions this year from April 21 to 23, with nearly half of the teams entered this year rural-based from as far as Churchill, Flin Flon and Souris.
As part of the tournament, Power 97 is hosting the Team Party Social on Thursday night at the Press Box Restaurant & Sports Bar inside the MTS Iceplex. The Power 97 party will also feature a special hockey guest interview with Quinton Howden of Oakbank, Manitoba.
The social begins at 8:30 p.m. and tickets are $5 per person. To promote the fight against impaired driving, Hockey Manitoba is offering a shuttle that will leave the MTS Iceplex at 12:30 a.m. and again at 1:30 a.m. to Canad Inns Polo Park and the Radisson hotel downtown.
Also at the social, the Team Manitoba Draft will be announced, where players will be selected to play against the Winnipeg Jets Alumni and Friends on Friday, April 22. Three mini-games are scheduled for between 2 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.
