A traffic stop on Highway 1 in the RM of Cypress early Friday morning has led to the eventual extradition of a U.S. citizen.
Carberry RCMP pulled over a semi truck travelling eastbound at about 1:45 a.m. after reports of sparks flying out from underneath it. A dragging steel safety chain was the culprit, but police soon discovered a bigger problem.
An outstanding warrant on the 50-year-old truck driver for vehicular homicide turned out to still be active.
Abraham Hernandez Gonzalez of Yuma, Arizona was taken into police custody on a warrant issued in San Bernardino, California.
Gonzalez is being held at the Brandon Correctional Institute while the Canadian Border Services Agency begins the extradition process to the United States.
Police are working with authorities in San Bernardino to return Gonzalez to California.
