Crash Kills Three People in Hamiota

May 1, 2011 11:53 AM | News

Three people were killed Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash in Hamiota.

RCMP say five people were travelling in a pickup truck when it lost control on Birch Avenue, slid into the ditch and struck a tree at about 3:20 a.m.

Three people were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two — a man and woman — were taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre for undetermined injuries.

The driver, a 23-year-old Hamiota man, is one of the deceased. The two others have been identified as a 25-year-old Hamiota woman, and a 35-year-old man from the RM of Woodworth.

RCMP believe speed was a contributing factor in the crash, and say road conditions were poor at the time.

No names have been released.

Hamiota is about 280 kilometres west of Winnipeg.
