Osama bin Laden
Osama bin Laden, the al-Qaeda mastermind behind the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, is dead.
U.S. President Barack Obama made the announcement late Sunday night, after TV networks broke into programming to share the news first, based on congressional sources.
“Justice has been done,” Obama said during his roughly ten-minute speech from the White House.
The terrorist ring leader was killed Sunday during a brief firefight with U.S. Navy SEALs in Abbotabad, Pakistan, and located inside a compound.
The president noted that no Americans were harmed in the operation, and care was taken to avoid civilian casualties.
The United States is now in possession of bin Laden’s body.
Oddly enough, on this day (May 1) in 1945, Hitler died.
