Steve Ashton, Manitoba’s Emergency Measures Minister, was set to meet with First Nations leaders late Thursday over rising water levels in their communities.
The rising Lake St. Martin has become a concern in recent days, and Ashton wants to make sure the Lake St. Martin and Little Saskatchewan River First Nations are prepared.
Watch:
The province also said Thursday 544 people had returned to Roseau River First Nation after being evacuated a few weeks ago. That leaves the number of evacuees still displaced by flooding to 1,306.
In Winnipeg, the Red River crested Wednesday at 19.59 feet at James Avenue. The river has also crested at all points north of Winnipeg.
