To help reduce the carbon footprint of festival goers headed to this year’s Winnipeg Folk Festival, organizers are offering a free shuttle service to Birds Hill Provincial Park.

The Festival Express Free Transit Service will travel to-and-from Birds Hill, creating the opportunity for people to leave their vehicles at home from July 6-10.

“While the Winnipeg Transit service has been offered for several years, this year we’re thrilled to provide expanded service — with more frequency and a park and ride option, the Festival Express is the quickest and easiest way to travel to and from the festival — and best of all, it’s free,” said Tamara Kater, executive director of the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Riders can show their valid 2011 festival ticket, wristband, or access pass when boarding.

There will be multiple routes to the festival site, with stops along Graham and at City Hall, departing every 30 minutes from Memorial and York, and McPhillips Station Casino park and ride, with non-stop departures every hour from the back parking lot.

Festival Express hours will be Wednesday and Thursday from 4 p.m. to 1:07 a.m., Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1:07 a.m., and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
