Pow Wow to Celebrate Graduating Aboriginal Students

A Pow Wow will celebrate Aboriginal students graduating from the University of Manitoba today.

The 22nd annual Traditional Graduation Pow Wow will be held in the Investors Group Athletic Centre and include approximately 158 students.

A pipe ceremony will begin celebrations at 10:30 a.m. conducted by Elder Charlie Nelson. The Grand Entry starts at 1:00 p.m.

At about 2:30 p.m., a presentation of certificates and other gifts will take place. An Honour Song will be presented, during which time all the graduates will enter the Circle, then the entire audience will be invited to greet and congratulate the honourees.

Food will be served at 5 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room on the second floor of University Centre. A craft sale will be held all day on the second and third floors of the Investors Group Athletic Centre.

A second Grand Entry will be held at 7 p.m.

All activities are free and open to the public.
