As part of the Chief Peguis Extension Project, Gateway Road between Jim Smith Drive and Sun Valley Drive is undergoing construction as of 6 a.m. this morning.
The City of Winnipeg says the construction will take place in five stages over the next three months — completing by September 2011.
Vehicle traffic will be affected, while temporary pedestrian access is maintained travelling north and southbound.
The first stage of construction is expected to last five days and will see one lane of Gateway open to southbound traffic only, with Raleigh open to north and southbound traffic. Pedestrians can use the multi-use pathway and Gateway sidewalk.
Winnipeg Transit will operate Route 11 Kildonan via Rothesay to McIvor Loop, returning via southbound Gateway to Donwood. Route 85 will temporarily operate on Raleigh in both directions.
The rest of the five stages are outlined in detail at Winnipeg.ca.
