A made-in-Manitoba movie will begin screening in Winnipeg on Friday at Cinematheque theatre.

“The Year Dolly Parton Was My Mom” was shot in all across the province, including scenes in Quebec last summer. The flick is currently in theatres in select cities across Canada.

The film is set in 1976 and chronicles Elizabeth, an 11-year-old praying for adolescence to arrive when she discovers her whole life has been a lie. When Elizabeth runs away to search for her true identity, while her mother searches the country desperately looking for her daughter.

The highly-anticipated album features the celebrated music and voice of the great Dolly Parton herself, and acclaimed Canadian female recording artists, including Manitoba singers. The soundtrack is available at McNally Robinson Booksellers.

The film will run from June 10 to 16.
