True North Sports and Entertainment announced Friday a three-year agreement with St. John’s Sports and Entertainment for a new American Hockey League affiliation in the Maritime city.

Effective immediately, the team formerly known as the Manitoba Moose, will be located in St. John’s and will operate as the affiliate of Winnipeg’s new NHL franchise.

The new AHL team will be led by former Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, Danny Williams, and former GM of the St. John’s Maple Leafs, Glenn Stanford.

True North Sports and Entertainment will maintain ownership of the St. John’s franchise.

True North Chairman Mark Chipman moved the Moose from Minnesota to Winnipeg in 1996.
