The annual TD Summer Reading Club began Monday at all of the city’s public libraries.
Children up to the age of 12 who sign up receive a free reading kit with activity booklet, poster and stickers. Participants track their time spent reading and collect small prizes as they progress through their reading logs.
The program helps reduce summer leaning loss, while improving children’s reading skills.
This year’s theme of Splash! Celebrate Summer has inspired a variety of water-themed creative displays and programs.
Programming this year includes:
- Stories, games and craft programs for pre-school and school age children at all 20 locations.
- Readings by Winnipeg Goldeyes baseball players followed by Library Night at the Ballpark at Shaw Park on August 10.
- TD Summer Reading Club wind-ups with special performances by Lulu & the Tomcat, The Magic of Ryan Price and Mago the Magician.
- Prize draws including City of Winnipeg swim passes and tickets to Winnipeg Goldeyes games.
The program runs until Friday, August 12. Visit Winnipeg.ca/library for further details.
