A sad start to the long weekend as two people were killed late Thursday afternoon.

RCMP say at around 3 p.m., two vehicles collided on Highway 10 about 14 kilometres north of the Highway 16 junction.

The head-on collision between a pickup truck and a car killed the two occupants in the car, while the woman driver of the truck was taken to hospital with unknown injuries. She was the only one in the vehicle.

The two people in the car were pronounced deceased at the scene.

The identities and ages of the two victims have not been released.

Highway 10 is closed at Highway 16 and will remain so for several hours. Motorists are advised to take alternate routes if heading to Clear Lake or Dauphin’s Countryfest.

UPDATE: 9 p.m. — Highway 10 is now reopen.

UPDATE: July 2, 2011 — The two deceased have been identified as a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old woman, both from Brandon. Their names will not be released.
