Dufresne Furniture is looking to give back to the community by helping out Manitoba charities who have been affected by the weakened economy.

The Dufresne Foundation’s $1 Million Dollar Charity Challenge is currently asking members of the public to nominate a charity of their choice to receive a share of the donations.

Nominations for non-profits with a special focus on children, women and health programs are eligible.

According to a recent national report by Imagine Canada, more than half of charities are experiencing increased demand for their services and/or difficulty fulfilling their mission.

“We’ve been fortunate enough to be successful and we feel it is our responsibility to give back, that’s why we are dedicated to supporting local charities,” said Mark Dufresne, CEO of The Dufresne Group. “This challenge is part of the year-long celebration of Dufresne’s 25th Anniversary.”

Nominations can be made at Dufresne.ca until August 8, 2011.
