July the Worst Month for Bike/Vehicle Collisions

July 5, 2011 6:45 AM | News

Manitoba Public Insurance is teaming up with provincial cycling advocacy groups to develop a new, user-friendly cycling initiative.

The partnership comes as MPI highlights July as being the worst month for collisions between cyclists and vehicles.

According to MPI, there are 266 bicycle victims in Manitoba annual, of which 18 percent of those victims are injured in July.

In addition to refreshing the ‘I Cycle Safely’ brochure, a unique children’s cycling safety presentation that includes instructions on how interested groups can organize their very own Bike Rodeo for children has been developed for community groups, daycares and elementary schools.

Safe cycling information is available on MPI’s website and covers topics such as bike maintenance and safety equipment, safe cycling practices and the rights and responsibilities of both motorists and cyclists when sharing the road together.
