A crash between an all-terrain vehicle and a van has claimed the life of a boy from the RM of Minitonas.

RCMP say at about 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, the ATV was crossing Highway 268 about 45 kilometres northeast of Swan River when it collided with a southbound van.

The 14-year-old driver of the ATV was pronounced dead in hospital. The three people in the van were also taken to Swan River Valley Hospital, but were treated and released for minor injuries.

The boy’s name is not being released.

RCMP are continuing to investigate, and say alcohol is not considered a factor.

The ATV rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
