Bisons Recruit Seven for Upcoming Track and Field Season

July 7, 2011 7:32 AM | Sports

The Manitoba Bison track and field team has recruited seven top high school athletes for the 2011-12 season.

On Wednesday, head coach Claude Berube introduced the recruits — made up of five men and two women — to local media.

Joining the team will be Michael Akins, Ben Allen, Matthew Fitkowsky, Steve Olson, Graham Woo, Sade Ogungbemi and Mallory Waters.

Besides track and field duties, both Akins and Allen will also be a part of Bison football in the fall.

“We are very excited about this group of incoming athletes,” Berube said. “Many of them have experience in inter-provincial competitions and have proven themselves to be very competitive athletes. This bodes very well for the present and future of Bison Track and Field.”

Most of these athletes will have a chance to show off this weekend, when the U of M hosts the 2011 Canadian Junior Track and Field Championships (19 and under) from July 8-10.
