The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ will make a funding announcement today to benefit safety in the city’s downtown.
“The initiative focuses on areas of the downtown in which there is vibrant activity attracting people to enjoy our downtown,” the BIZ said in a statement.
The announcement is expected to provide safer environments for evening event crowds leaving hockey games, concerts and other events.
BIZ officials will unveil their plans outside MTS Centre at the corner of Portage Avenue and Donald Street at 3 p.m.
UPDATE: 10 more safety patrol officers will be out on downtown streets following large events. The BIZ will fund the addition the first year themselves.
