Manitoba Astronomer to Venture Out on Arctic Excursion

July 19, 2011 7:54 AM | News

An astronomy instructor at the Manitoba Planetarium will join 70 students on a ship bound for the Arctic later this week.

Mike Jensen and 53 other educators and scientists will trace the path of the Vikings, visiting Iceland, Greenland, north Labrador and Quebec.

The Students on Ice excursion will run from July 23 to August 8 and include students from across Canada and around the world.

“This year, I’m really excited for this year’s planned itinerary,” Jensen said. “It offers a whole new perspective to our journey and truly gives our expedition an international feel. Not to mention, the Danish blood in me is excited to step foot on Denmark soil, as Greenland is a Danish protectorate.”

Jensen will be acting as a polar educator, helping the students get the most out of the experience.
