A elderly man walking in the middle of Highway 215 just west of Beausejour was killed Saturday night when he was struck by a vehicle.

RCMP say the 84-year-old area man was walking westbound at the time wearing dark clothing at about 11:15 p.m. A concerned motorist had called police just 15 minutes prior to report the man walking in the roadway.

A 25-year-old man from the RM of Brokenhead hit the pedestrian after unsuccessfully trying to avoid hitting him.

The pedestrian was pronounced deceased in Beausejour Hospital.

Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash and no charges will be laid against the driver.
