A 17-year-old boy from Pine Creek First Nation died Saturday after the vehicle he was driving struck a horse.

RCMP say the 1999 Oldsmobile Alero was travelling eastbound on Highway 20 about five kilometres east of Cowan, Manitoba when the accident occurred.

The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene at about 11 p.m.

Passengers in the vehicle, including two 15- and 16-year-old youths, were taken to Swan Valley hospital for treatment of their injuries. The third passenger, a 30-year-old woman from Camperville, was airlifted to the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg in stable condition.

No names have been released and alcohol is not considered a factor.

Police say it’s believed the driver was not wearing a seat belt.
