Winnipeg police have nabbed a local man they believe is responsible for a string of arsons in the city going back to May 1.

The Fort Rouge area has been plagued with suspicious fires recently, which have caused approximately $680,000 in damage up until July 26.

Brandon Sutyla, 20, is facing 18 counts of arson, including two charges for disregard to human life, possessing an incendiary device and breach of probation.

Sutyla was arrested Wednesday near Chancellor Drive in Waverley Heights.

He remains in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre.
