Assiniboine Park Zoo Partners with San Diego Counterpart

Assiniboine Park Zoo has formed a partnership with the San Diego Zoo in the name of polar bear conservation.

The joint effort will assist with the opening of “Journey to Churchill,” a polar bear exhibit set to open at Winnipeg’s zoo in 2013.

“The Assiniboine Park Zoo is very happy to be working in partnership with the San Diego Zoo,” said Tim Sinclair-Smith, director of zoological operations for the Assiniboine Park Conservancy. “Their vision and initiatives for polar bear research and conservation are very much in line with those of APC, which makes our partnership a natural fit.”

The two organizations will work together to educate the public on polar bear-related issues with interpretive programming and more.

Each zoo will have its own functions and responsibilities, but staff at both zoos will share information with each other and establish joint research projects to benefit both facilities.
