Gerrard Would Work to Reduce Inner-City Dropout Rates

September 8, 2011 11:08 AM | News

Manitoba’s Liberal party has pledged $3 million to keep inner-city children in school.

The investment would take aim at Manitoba’s high dropout rates (up to 50 percent in core areas), build more technical and vocational programs, and increase resources of truancy officers.

Leader Jon Gerrard accused the NDP of ignoring inner-city schools to hide the dropout rates from the public.

“The NDP doesn’t care about inner-city kids, and the NDP won’t release these rates because they don’t want to deal with the issue,” Gerrard said.
