Manitoba’s NDP has promised $60 million to build the first phase of a new Skilled Trades and Technology Centre at Red River College’s Notre Dame campus.
Premier Greg Selinger made the campaign announcement Thursday while at RRC, saying the centre will increase the number of apprentices training across Manitoba.
The centre will be home to carpentry, electrical and plumbing trades programs.
Selinger also said he would increase hiring incentives for employers to $3,000 to take on more level 1 and 2 apprentices, and $5,000 for level 3, 4 and 5 apprentices. The increase would cost the government $9 million annually.
