A Winnipeg hockey official is headed to the big leagues, having been invited to the 2011/12 NHL Officials Training Camp.
Brett Montsion has worked as a WHL official the last two seasons, as well as with the Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL). Montsion will begin his stint at the camp in Collingwood, Ontario today, joining NHL officials and learning from the pros.
The two-day camp will feature off-ice tests such as medical and fitness testing along with on-ice development and skating sessions, with the opportunity to be added to the NHL officials roster for this season.
Montsion played his minor hockey through the St. James Minor Hockey Association and is currently a business student at the University of Manitoba’s Asper School of Business.
Other Manitobans expected to be at the camp are current NHL officials and Winnipeggers Ryan Galloway and Vaughan Rody.
