You have a few more days to enjoy the Shirley Richardson Butterfly Garden at the Assiniboine Park Zoo before it closes for the season.
The popular attraction, which opened in June, will close on Sunday until the spring of 2012.
The 2,000 square-foot garden opened with more than 500 Monarch and Painted Lady butterflies and 200 Black Swallow Tails and Red Admirals. The butterflies that are currently housed in the garden will be released September 20 in collaboration with the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
The farthest Manitoba Monarch recorded was tagged at Hillside Beach, Manitoba and recovered in Cerro Pelon, Mexico — approximately 3,000 kilometres away.
