The Manitoba Liberals would phase out the payroll tax if elected.
Party leader Jon Gerrard said Thursday that under his government, the payroll tax would be eliminated for publicly-funded universities and colleges, with the goal to eventually have it abolished for all businesses.
“Let’s be clear this is a tax that kills jobs,” Gerrard said.
The Liberals would aim to have the tax reduced in every budget until all organizations no longer have to pay it.
Partially phasing out the payroll tax for universities and colleges in the first year would cost $6.2 million.
