Portraits of Honour (KIN CANADA)
A 40-foot mural depicting 157 fallen Canadian soldiers will make a visit to Winnipeg on Wednesday for one day only.
The mural was created by artist Dave Sopha and is part of the Portraits of Honour tour, and is being brought to the city by the Kinsmen Club of Winnipeg.
“This mural depicts the human face of our mission in Afghanistan,” said Tim McKay, host committee chair at Kin Canada.”These brave men and women volunteered to serve a cause bigger than themselves and we want to do something to not only remember, but honour, their sacrifice.”
The mural will make its way from Shaw Park along a parade route to The Forks. A public ceremony is set for 12:30 p.m. after it arrives. Viewing will be available until 7 p.m.
The event will be attended by the families of the five Manitobans who lost their lives serving our country, as well as government and law enforcement officials.
