The Winnipeg Jets have secured rookie centre Mark Scheifele to an entry-level contract.

The 18-year-old from Kitchener, Ontario was the Jets’ first round pick (seventh overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft on June 24.

Scheifele led the Jets in pre-season action with four goals and eight points in five exhibition games.

Last season, Scheifele played his OHL rookie year with the Barrie Colts where he led all rookies with 53 assists.

Head coach Claude Noel once again praised Scheifele following the team’s last pre-season game on Friday at MTS Centre.
