A film highlighting the work of artist William Kurelek will make its Canadian premiere at the Winnipeg Art Gallery on Thursday.

“William Kurelek’s The Maze” is a film about the life of the celebrated Canadian artist and extends beyond a 1969 short version of the film, which was named outstanding educational documentary of the year at the 1973 American Film Festival

“Kurelek’s story is dramatically told through his paintings and on-camera revelations as the film takes an intimate look into the life of one of the 20th century’s most fascinating artists and his struggles with attempted suicide and a self-professed spiritual crisis,” the WAG said in a release.

The premiere is set for 7 p.m Tickets are $10 at the door or in advance by calling (204) 789-0516. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker Nick Young.

The film will also be screened on Saturday, November 26 at 2 p.m.
